Privacy
Privacy notice.
Last updated 19 July 2026
Rose & Sword is a small, independent publication. This notice explains, in plain terms, what happens with your information when you read the site or subscribe to the newsletter.
What we collect on this site
When you browse Rose & Sword, we do not use tracking cookies, third-party advertising trackers, or analytics that profile you. The site does not require a login and does not build a personal profile of any reader.
Basic server logs — such as your IP address and the pages you request — may be recorded by the hosting provider for a limited period. They are used only to keep the site available and secure.
Subscribing to the newsletter
The newsletter is hosted on Substack. If you subscribe, your email address is held by Substack under its own privacy terms. We use it only to send essays and, occasionally, related announcements. You can unsubscribe at any time from the footer of any email.
Content served through third parties
Article content and images are delivered from the publication's editorial systems. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. When you visit a page, those services see the standard request information a browser sends to any website.
Children
Rose & Sword is written for adults. The site is not intended for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Sexual Confidence Check
The Sexual Confidence Check is an educational self-assessment. As you answer the 12 questions, four aggregate sexual-confidence scores are calculated in your browser. Individual question answers remain in your browser only and are never sent to us or stored on our servers.
Your scores are stored only if you provide explicit consent on the results page. When you consent, we store your first name, email address, the four aggregate scores, your primary focus area, an optional secondary focus area, a record of your consent and the date of submission.
This information is used to send you personalised follow-up guidance and relevant recommendations based on your results, and to analyse aggregated patterns across submissions so we can improve Rose & Sword content and products. Individual answers are never used for analysis because they are never stored.
To send the guidance you requested, your first name, email address and broad focus-area tags may be manually added to our email provider, Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Kit does not receive your numerical scores or your individual answers. Kit processes your data under its own privacy terms — see Kit's privacy notice for details.
You may withdraw consent and request deletion of your saved scores at any time. Retention period and privacy contact address are still to be confirmed by the site owner before publication of this section.
Your rights
You may ask us what information, if any, we hold about you, and request its deletion. The simplest route is to reply to any newsletter email.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page if the practices above change materially. The date at the top reflects the latest revision.
